UNDERWATER AND COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Paul is an award-winning filmmaker, underwater photographer, author and environmental storyteller based in the Sultanate of Oman.

Over the course of his career, he has written, produced and directed films for leading international companies and government organisations, shaping visual communication strategies and delivering content that informs, engages and inspires. His work spans promotional, training and documentary filmmaking, with multiple international accolades including Gold and Silver awards at the US Film & Video Festival and the World Media Festivals.

While film laid the foundation, Paul’s enduring passion is for the ocean. A diver throughout his adult life and an underwater photographer for more than twenty-five years, he approaches the marine environment not simply as an observer, but as a visual storyteller. Today, he considers himself a photographer who dives—using the medium to reveal behaviour, atmosphere and the often-overlooked interactions that define reef ecosystems. Each dive is both exploration and documentation, capturing moments that combine aesthetic beauty with ecological meaning.

Since moving to the Sultanate of Oman in 2013 with his wife Gill, Paul has developed a deep connection with the region’s unique and largely undiscovered underwater landscapes. His work culminated in Secret Seas, the first major photographic book dedicated to Oman’s underwater world—offering a rare and compelling visual record of its marine biodiversity.

Alongside his photographic and creative work, Paul is co-founder of Reef Haven, an initiative focused on the development of underwater heritage and cultural experiences. Through Reef Haven, he is involved in the concept, design and delivery of underwater museums, art parks and marine-based visitor attractions that combine tourism, conservation and storytelling. These projects are designed not only to attract visitors, but to create lasting environmental value—supporting the underwater environment, scientific research, education and public engagement with the ocean.

His professional portfolio includes underwater and visual storytelling projects for organisations such as Advance Aquarium Technologies, Alila Hotels, Barr Al Jissah Shangri-La, the Environment Authority, Innotech, the Marine Science & Fisheries Centre (Ministry of Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources, Oman), Oman Sail, Vale and others.

Paul also shares his knowledge through talks and workshops on underwater photography and visual storytelling, including presentations at events such as the London Eco Film Festival.

As a writer, he brings the same environmental focus into fiction. He is the author of three novels, including Toxic Rain and Say Hello to the Darkness, which explore the world of environmental crime, corporate power and the global consequences of greed and ecological exploitation.

Across film, photography, writing and immersive marine projects, Paul’s work is driven by a single aim: to reveal the hidden world beneath the surface—and to create experiences that connect people more deeply with the ocean and its future.

I am an award-winning film maker, photographer and author. I have written, produced and directed promotional, training and information films for some of the world’s leading companies and government organisations, and provided consultancy advice on their visual communications’ strategies. Along the way, I produced several broadcast documentaries. My film work has been recognised by top international awards which include Gold and Silver winners at the US Film and Video Festivals and World Media Festivals.

My true passion, however, is for the underwater world and its myriad life. I have been a diver all my adult life, and an underwater photographer for some twenty five years. I no longer think of myself as a diver with a camera but as a photographer who dives. For me, every dive is an adventure where I am almost certainly going to see something new and enthralling.

In 2013 my wife, Gill, and I moved to the Sultanate of Oman where I lead a business developing marine tourism attractions and undertake photographic projects for a wide range of clients. In 2021 I published ‘Secret Seas,’ the first ever coffee table photographic book on Oman’s underwater world.

Professional underwater photography projects have been undertaken for clients such as Advance Aquarium Technologies, Alila Hotels, Barr Al Jissah Shangri La Hotel, the Environment Authority, Innotch, Marine Science & Fisheries Centre (Part of the Ministry of Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources, Oman), National Mineral Water Company, The Edge Picture Company, Oman Sail, Traccs Public Relations, Vale.

Over the years, I have given talks on underwater photography to camera clubs and other organisations including the London Eco Film Festival.

My writing includes documentary scripts and three crime novels. The last two, ‘Toxic Rain’ and ‘Say hello to the darkness’ are stories set in the murky world of environmental and climate crimes.
